Walking in authority

One of the greatest announcement being made by our lord Jesus Christ is found in the tenth chapter of the book of Luke.

Luke 10:19
[19]Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

We shall take a moment to navigate in it, looking on the mandate carried by this announcement especially to believers and to those who are yet to believe also. Before we are far, can we take a few moment to brainstorm a bit on how far have you believed this scripture? Have you ever excised your faith in this? Can you apply it?

Saying of authority

Many scriptures have defined about authority, God has given to the believers. In some of these scriptures we see how God is ordaining his people with power for his mission and in some, He is declaring to them how they look like or showing what they have. In all these circumstances, God is equipping his people to stand, walk and accomplish different assignments in this world filled by pervasions and wrong systems from kingdom of darkness.

So we can define authority as a delegated power by God to his people to be true representatives in the world.

We know that God is the most powerful in heaven, on earth and under the earth as the Bible defines. But He uses people to perform the things He wants that’s why He delegates His power to those who believe in Him for the missions He wants to accomplish.

Tracing the origin of it.

It’s awesome to understand that, authority is not a new testament reality only, but it commenced at the verge of creation.
When God wanted to create man he decided to create him in His own image and likeliness ( Genesis 1:26). This was to mean; the created man had a full resemblance to God in everything. If God created by Word man was given ability to create by words, that’s why declaration is the great tool to make things manifested and established in natural realm. It is not surprising when we are declared gods because we look like the great God.
Psalms 82:6
[6]I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.

Our sonship made us resemble Him.

Are you not surprised even on how the creation of man was? God made all other things only by speaking a word, but us who are of His image, He spoke and crafted by hands. God made all kinds of tree to grow that were pleasing for food (Genesis 2:9). He did not grow plants purposely for medication because man had supernatural power/ authority over diseases. When the animals were brought, Adam named them all and every name was good in the site of God (Genesis 2:19). This portrays the practicle definition of authority or God delegation of power.

The fall however had bad implication on everything. It separated man from God consequently loss of authority because there is no authority out of God.

Restoration
The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ became the counterpoint of everything. The Bible states clearly on the purpose of His coming.
Luke 19:10
[10]For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
What was lost? In simple terms was salvation and everything entails of it including authority.

Jesus declares about restoration of power and authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18-20) so restoring the same to believers who are His son’s (John 1:12) and joint heirs with Him (Romans 8:17). Apostle Paul goes far and states how we are seated together with Christ in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6), as explaining how the grace of God by death and resurrection of Jesus has granted us to that dimension of authority.

How to walk in authority?
God expects every believer to exercise and walk in that authority which is freely granted unto him. Some of us however remain with questions? How, when, is it possible?

Accepting His Lordship
Adam could walk in authority only when he was Intimate with God. As the intimacy was lost, authority was lost also. It means there is no authority out of Him who is the source of it. Even now, we become children and joint heirs after receiving Him as our Lord and savior. This means surrendering all to Him and Letting Him take charge of everything.
Psalms 46:10
[10]Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

The degree of your surrender to the work of cross determines the degree of your authority. Firstly accepting the work of the cross and becoming a son (John 1:12), then continual of the surrender to Him.

Enlightenment of our hearts.
This is another important aspect to inquire of God if we real need to walk in authority. There is no any man in the kingdom who has accepted Jesus as Lord and savior and has no authority. The only problem many are suffering is that the eyes of their hearts/understanding are blurred that they can’t see well the abundance in their side, the position they are seated together with Christ etc.

Ephesians 1:18-19
[18]The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
[19]And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
If you read well Ephesians 1:15-23, you’ll find whole explanation of what I’m trying to make here. So among the greatest prayers we can make is not “God give me power/authority” but “God open/enlighten the eyes of my understanding” because we already have it.

Faith
This is the principle key to supernatural exploits. We should know that, everything existing today in natural realm is the result of something that was only existing in supernatural realm but was brought in the natural by faith. This is the important currency to buy things from supernatural to natural. The word goes far to explain how this currency can do for us;

John 14:12
[12]Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

So, we have access to command limitless exploits, what is only needed is faith. I want to insist on this my brethren. This is not a theory, if you put everything we are talking here in practice, you will then be amazed by how can God do with you.

Purity
If we want to manifest God in greater dimensions, purity is inescapable. We have seen that, it’s not we who work but we are the vessels for who is inside of us to act. So I hope you believe me if I also say we are the hosts of the Holy spirit in us. We are the temple for Him as apostle Paul states;
1 Corinthians 3:16
[16]Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
So this is it. We are the temple of God and we can not use the temple of God anyhow. Defiling it, means it’s destruction characterized by devoid of power.

Love

Of all we have gone through, this is the foundation of walking in authority. Every command Jesus did was built in love. It was love that drove compassion in Him wherever He went and commanded healing. Love was also the foundation of the great commands by the apostles. Everyone whose command is built in it will never fall. It’s great mystery that love never fails in the kingdom of God.
1 Corinthians 13:1-3
If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.
In short this chapter explains well on love and final giving the summary of the greatest things in kingdom while love emerges the first of all.
That’s why when God calls a person to Him, among the important lesson he teaches him before sending is love. This is because when a person realizes the exceeding authority in his hand without full course on love, he may use that authority more to destroy than to build the body. Steven was being stoned but he didn’t curse the accusers but he interceded for their salvation. It was very simple to declare judgement on them but he carried love in Him.
What drives you to decree a thing will determine the level of it’s manifestation. If love is the driving factor, even it’s manifestation will be great but if is mixed by other factors, the difference will be clear.

Equipped for the missions
Dear generals of God, we are in the time that the world needs us greatly. It’s not the time to sorrow and leave them but the time sfor them to be saved. There is no investment God does for us which is the waste. As long as you know God, as long as you know how you are equipped, you have a mission to accomplish.

It doesn’t take only the one in fivefold ministry to stand for the missions, but everyone according to the place ordained for him. Be it politics, sports, economics etc. we must stand and act. Like the question posed to Ester by her uncle
Esther 4:14
[14]For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

Lets end for today.
Dear brethren, you are loved, blessed by God and destined for greater exploits. The world has no power to overcome you. God has a lot of things in store for you. Things awaits for your command not your tears. Arise you blessed one the world awaits for you to make changes.

Declaration
Lord Jesus, I believe in the suffering, death and resurrection on the cross which you went through by love to save and restore me for eternity.
It’s another time I commit myself to you as the ready vessel for your glorification in the world.
Enlighten the eyes of my understanding to know the riches placed in me and the true purpose of my creation. Quicken my feet for every work you have ordained unto my hands. Teach me to love and make it the foundation of everything I do.
Help me grow in the knowledge of you, day by day as my intimacy with you also grows.
